On Halloween in Scotland, the Devil calls all witches together to dance the night away to music played on a ‘Devils Bagpipe’. This is a musical instrument made from hens heads and cats tails.
If a black cat comes to meet you, it is good luck. But if it only comes halfway, walks away from you, this is a bad sign.
An ancient Irish legend has it that on Halloween a cave known as ‘Hell Gate of Ireland’opens up and ghosts fly out, wreaking havoc and stealing babies, whom they replace with demonic children and changelings.
In Celtic lands, on the last day of October, farmers heap their tables with food from the harvest to welcome home their ghosts. Bright flames from huge bonfires guided spirits on their journeys back home and frightened evil ones away.

At night, cats accompanied witches and because of the darkness all were thought to embody evil
