What's In A Name?

Often times we get asked how we choose our magical names. Here at the school if the student does not have a chosen name we hand choose one for them. We feel that each student should begin to know what it is like to be called by that special name. It is really easy for me to choose names for our students. Whether it is one or twenty in a day I usually can hit the nail on the head with a personal name that the students are amazed at. As it reflects some personality trait of theirs that I have felt about them.

You should always choose a name that has some personal meaning to you. Something that you feel is a part of you. Yes, you can use those cheesy name generators but how lazy can you get? I did one for fun and the name was so cheesy I nearly spewed coffee all over my computer screen.

One good way is to ask for assistance from your guides. Do this before you sleep. Keeping it as the last thought on your mind. It may take a day or even a week but the name will be shown to you.

Maybe you are attracted to Dove's but yet love the hot warmth of summer. Putting the combination together you might get something like

Dove's Fire
Fire Dove
Fire of The Dove

and so on and so forth.

Usually we have two magical names. One for public, such as covens or groups and another that we use in ritualistic working. This last name is one that you may not share opening with others. Such as mine is only used by those on the counsel that I sit on. Other than that the special name is not in the open. Making it a power name when and if I use in any workings.

You might choose a name in the beginning only to find that you out grow it or it no longer suits who you are now. It is OK to change your magical name.

Remember your deities know who you are.

A name is a name but an individual is the real magic.
