For the Wee Ones To Do

My teens are to worried about girls and acne to really participate in anything. I do have an eight year old so we usually do some fun things after he gets out of school. One thing that we do every year and that is to collect the colorful leaves that we find along our way home from school.

He loves running around seeing how many oranges and ambers he can collect to decorate the fire place mantle.

Another big hit is we make place mats out of the dried leaves that we find. Each year we make a new one. Why a new one every year? As he ages his artistic creations change so much. We can compare the previous years, that are all dated, to see how far he has come in his designs. This year he wanted to put flowers in the mats. So, off in the yard we went to pick flowers and even weds that had flowers to use for his mat.

Another fun craft to do is to make the leaves into prints. We use finger paint and dip the leaves in carefully and then apply to white or orange paper.

He enjoys this. I think it is because he can be creative and messy at the same time!

Reading is an important event that we do. Picking up books on folk lore is fun for the both of us.

No matter what you do, do it with your child. They love doing it and being with you at the same time. Making Mabon something that they will always remember in the future.
