Apple Dolls For Your Altar

Another wonderful idea was brought to my attention by a student last night. Apple Dolls! They are not all that hard to make and apples are in the super markets.

Since the apple is a sacred symbol of the witch it only seems appropriate to include this cutie on your altar. Let your imagination run wild. Create your own personalized apple doll to display for a long while. There are some great sites that I found that showed step by steps on this. appledoll.org was one that was of great help to me in the carving. That is a picture of what they have made!

Here is what you will need:

2 Large Apples (One for Mabon & one for Modron)
2 Pencils
2 Wooden 12" dowels
Knife

Peel the apples completely. Trying to remove all of the skin.
Begin to carve the face. This is the fun part because it is your creation! Just dive in and do what you want. Be as creative as you can.

Place the apples on a dowel. Two apples, two dowels
Stand these in a jar to dry

You may charge these apple dolls in your circle for further workings later on.

These apple heads should be dry in 2-3 weeks. You can still though place them in your Altar or sacred space on Mabon

You will notice that these look like shrunken heads as they begin to dry and shrivel up. Much like a hard day at the office if you are in the career of futures trading

Once these are dried completely you can fill a body with herbs or flowers. Or you can make the hair out the herbs or flowers if you wish to. Make some colorful outfits that you feel is appropriate. Oh go wild and make outfits for all the Sabbats!. You can use this doll as a deco all year round if you want.

After you are done bring her/him back into your sacred space and charge or use a blessing for them

Never before heard of apple dolls, and just taken a peek at appledolls.org and now I can't wait to have a go at making one. The dehydrated apple flesh is so perfect for the facial tissue. Thanks so much for this introduction to something new!
